How to Help Students Deal with COVID-19

Since all schools, colleges, and other educational institutes are closed during this global pandemic,

teachers are helping their students in adjusting to the new normal. This incorporates trying to keep them engaged, feeling secure, and trying to maintain schoolwork as

best as possible.

Helping Students Cope with COVID-19

· Give your students a reminder that you are always there for them.

· Informing them how you are changing your way of coping with the new normal and that transformation is part of life. Try to be more humane, casual, and light-hearted.

· Reflect on the idea of accuracy and continue to assist and challenge your students. Being an instructor, you sometimes might balance assistance and idea, and in this situation, students will require more assistance than idea. Growing consistency does not mean you expand the work amount needed for them. After all, the idea may suffer if you ponder the situation.

· You can repeat a few lessons you taught before in class. Particularly for those students who are missing the classroom ambiance. This will possibly activate their memory of being a part of a community and make them remember that they still belong to one.

· Use positive and hopeful language. This will help students wait for returning to the campus.

· Give students a chance to exchange contact numbers and for those who show interest, help them make a WhatsApp chat group. It can often be tough for a student to request the phone number of a classmate.

· Don’t ignore the discussion regarding the pandemic. If possible, discuss COVID-19 and its fear. This is a scope for you to remind all students to ponder their news sources and to make them alert about the huge amount of wrong data.

· Keep in mind that students have left behind over only their academics and classes. On both commuter and residential campuses, there are necessitous areas where students meet and discuss their non-academic lives, such as latest discovered shows, forth coming concerts, sports, and more. Ponder making a community discussion board for them for sharing what is going on in their lives, particularly provided the fear, stress, and strains in these changeable times.

· Inform your students that you will always support them and that in case they require help for reaching out to you. Always tell them that you are in contact with mental health professionals or counselors who can help them if they require speaking to somebody.

· Most importantly, ask every student how you can help him/her.
