Dr. Andrew Chu DO

Chief Psychiatry Resident

I'm Dr. Andrew Chu. I am a native Floridian and a University of Florida Gator Grad. Prior to medical school, I studied psychology and sociology, was a certified emergency medical technician, and worked as a social worker in Miami. I obtained my medical degree at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, FL. As chief resident physician of psychiatry at University Hospital and Medical Center, I enjoy supervising and teaching other resident physicians and medical students on complex medical and psychiatric cases.

I have first-hand experience working with mental health primarily within in-patient treatment centers.  I believe in an integrative, dynamic, and holistic therapeutic approach. I utilize a variety of techniques and skills drawn from therapeutic modalities such as Person-Centered, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and psychoeducation. I aim to work collaboratively with my patients and believe that they are the experts on themselves. My assessment and treatment plans are comprehensive, individualized, and developed collaboratively in an effort to treat my patients as effectively as possible.
